Kuala Lumpur Tower – A Unique Tourist Attraction

The Kuala Lumpur Tower (while the full name of the tower is Menara Kuala Lumpur, it is also known as KL Tower for short) is a telecommunications tower that provides a great view of the city and is an interesting and unique tourist attraction for visitors of Malaysia.

• The tower has an official height, including its antenna structure, of 421 meters (1,381 feet). The top of the roof is measured at 335 meters (1,099 feet).

• This makes the KL Tower the fourth highest telecommunications/antenna tower or structure in the world.



• Don’t be fooled! While it may appear that the tower stands above the Petronas Twin Towers in the Kuala Lumpur skyline, this is misleading. The Kuala Lumpur Tower stands on top of a hill, which makes its height above sea level a whopping 515 meters. Still, the height of the actual structure is considerably less than the 452 meters of the Petronas Twin Towers.

• Feeling hungry? The tower boasts the world’s highest McDonald’s. I guess a "no minimum" delivery to your home from this particular branch is out of the question! • Still feeling hungry, or don’t want the kitschy McDonald’s experience? There is a rotating restaurant that has a height of over 280 meters. If you get an upset stomach from the heights alone, you may want to pass on the food with a rotating view from all that height! • Ride the elevators up to the observation deck for a view of the city. You can listen in to a tour guide in various languages as you get explained to you all of the various sights of the city and country that you can see.

• Watch a documentary about the construction and creation of the KL Tower. This short video is repeated frequently throughout the day.

• Visit the shops here. After all, what is a tourist attraction without a souvenir? There are souvenir shops and other shops at the tower.

There is much to do and much to see at the Kuala Lumpur Tower, all of which makes it a wonderful tourist attraction. One final tip would be to cab or take the shuttle up the hill to where the Kuala Lumpur Tower is located. It is a steep climb and while doable, it may wear you out before you get a chance to enjoy the tower itself! >

The tower is located at Jalan Puncak. Easiest way to get there is to take the KL Monorail to Bukit Nanas station where you can take a 10 minutes walk to the main gate at Jalan Puncak. From here, the free shuttle service at an interval of 15 minutes is available from 9:00am to 6:00pm for you to reach the tower. After 6:00pm, it is better to take a taxi to the tower.
